Sledge

The sledge is a custom-built Acapulka, Arctic Challenge 230. The sledge will be modified so that it effectively becomes a "survey vessel", housing all the hi-tech equipment necessary to carry out the scientific and communications elements of the Arctic Survey.

The round and high-drawn front section provides both strength and tremendous gliding abilities through tough ice ridges. Due to its size, the survey vessel has good floatation properties and an enormous packing volume, crucial requirements for this endeavour.

The survey vessel has been designed to withstand heavy-duty tours in the arctic regions. It is handmade using Kevlar fibres and epoxy resins, measures 230cm x 63cm and weighs a mere 7.5kg.

The survey vessel can be fitted with a flotation device when crossing open stretches of water.
